Requirements for Certified Public Accountant Licensure and Exam
Purpose of Licensure:
To set standards of qualifications, education, training, and experience for persons engaged in CPA . To promote high
standards of professional performance for those persons working in CPA. To ensure that everyone engaged in work in
the CPA field is licensed.
Period of Licensure:
All permanent licenses are issued on an annual basis.
Application Process:
Applicant must be a resident of the U.S. Virgin Islands for at least thirty (30) days immediately prior to submittal
of application. You will need the following:
- A completed and certified application;
- Three (3) 2x2 photographs of the applicant;
- One (1) letter of favorable character testimony;
- Two (2) letters of professional reference from individuals with knowledge of applicant's work in the electrical field;
- Favorable tax clearance letter from the Bureau of Internal Revenue;
- Payment of Required Fees.
- A V.I. resident for at least 30 days immediately prior to exam.
- High School Diploma plus 6 yrs experience or College Degree plus 3 yrs experience or course related degree plus 2 yrs experience
- Verification of Registration and/or License from another state;
Examination:
All persons interested in being a licensed CPA must successfully complete all portions of the National Association of
State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA’s) exam and are required to sit a local examination. The local examination
is given three times per year.
Reciprocity:
A person holding a valid license or certificate issued by a state or territory of the United States or by a foreign
country may upon application be registered in the Virgin Islands. The foreign country must have a national
registration board of scope and standing corresponding to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy.
Renewal of License:
You will need the following:
- A completed and certified renewal application;
- A Favorable Tax Clearence Letter from the Bureau of Internal Revenue;
- Payment of Required Fees.
