About The CPA Board

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTANCY

The Virgin Islands Board of Public Accountancy established within the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs operates under the Public Accountancy Act of 2014 (ACT no. 7596). The Board was established to regulate Certified Public Accountants and Accounting Firms in the US Virgin Islands.

The Board processes applications to sit for the CPA exam, original Virgin Islands licensure applications, reactivation of a delinquent or inactive CPA license, permit applications, accountancy firm licensure, and continuing education reporting forms. Annual permits are processed via the National Association of State Board of Accountants (NASBA) website.

The Board consists of five members all of whom must be residents of the Territory, appointed by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Legislature. Two members shall reside on the island of St. Croix, two members shall reside on the island of St. Thomas, and one member shall reside on the island of St. John. Board members shall hold active licenses in the Virgin Islands. The board meets approximately 10 times a year. Meetings are open to the public.

There are currently approximately 62 Certified Public Accountants (CPA) and approximately 26 CPA firms licensed in the US Virgin Islands pursuant to Title 27, Chapter 5A of the Virgin Islands Code. US Virgin Islands CPA firms must be licensed, and CPAs can only practice in a licensed firm.

The Board consists of five (5) members all of whom are licensed CPA's in the US Virgin Islands.
