Instructions and General Information for
United States Virgin Islands
New Business License

The mere transmittal of this data does not automatically guarantee acceptance or issuance of a license. The applicant must comply with all the requirements associated with the specific license requested, and must provide all the verified documentation deemed necessary by the Virgin Island Code, and make all payments for the requested Licenses.

Step 1
          Applicant must select type of organization requesting business license (e.g., Corporation, Other).  If you are unsure about how to proceed please email questions to DLCA helpdesk at any time.  Call a Licensing Officer if you need assistance during regular business hours.

Step 2
          Select the type of license you desire when prompted to do so. More than one category can be selected.  You will be asked to provide a description of the type of business you wish to conduct later on in the application. This area will be reviewed by DLCA staff to determine appropriateness of the license categories selected.  Please provide as accurate and complete a description as possible.

Step 3
          Completely fill in application form. An incomplete field may prevent the application from being submitted.

  3. Zoning approval ($20.00) per applicant

Note: Note: Use your credit card (Master Card, Visa, ATH) for quickest processing. Cash payments must be made in person at the DLCA office in the district where your busniness will be located.  Make all checks payable to the Government of the Virgin Islands (Gov’t of the Virgin Islands).  Payments by check can be made in person or by mail.  Business License fees will only be charged upon completion and acceptance of application.

Step 4
          Provide verification of Lt. Governor's issuance of (Trade Name, Corporation, Partnership, LLC, LLP, etc.) documentation. The only licenses available without Lt. Governor's certification are licenses in the name of the applicant. Trade name verification is a critical element in the processing of a license application and will hold up issuance until received.

Note:  DLCA generates and forwards the following forms for processing:

  1. DPNR zoning approval
  2. POLICE Background Check

Step 5
          Keep in contact with your Licensing Officer at the DLCA.  Applicants are responsible, upon notification, for compliance with all requirements imposed by approving agencies.
